Mentoring and Work Experience

Are you looking for a more satisfying job? Perhaps you want to enhance your career prospects, but you’re a bit hesitant about how best to market your own capabilities and special skills, or maybe you are half way through a university course

The Mentoring Scheme

The Old Berkhamstedians are currently compiling a database of all those who would be willing to support our new graduates at the start of their career. If you have been working in your current field for five years more you could help a new graduate. There will be strict guidelines in place for both the mentor and student.

The Buddy System

If you are at University, or just graduated, your help could be invaluable to our Sixth Form students. ‘On the ground’ knowledge of universities and their courses would help our Sixth Formers with their choices. The Old Berkhamstedians also have a LinkedIn site, where you can network and connect with other professional Old Berkhamstedians for your future career moves – click here and search on Berkhamsted School Alumni.

Work Experience

Are you able to help with Work Experience? Each year all Year 12 students are expected to arrange a week of Work Experience at the end of the academic year. Last year 171 students took placements in over 200 companies with some very exciting placements including The Globe Theatre, KPMG (Dublin), the British Museum, the BBC, the Houses of Parliament, The Royal College of Surgeons, Kew Gardens, Henley Royal Regatta, PWC, The National Theatre, Universal Music Enterprise, Ernst & Young, Selex Galileo and many more. Some students went abroad for their placements including a placement in Deloitte (Spain), Sportsfit, Healthcare City (Dubai), Chanel (Paris) and Sharza Hotels (Geneva). Many of these places were offered by OBs, so if you feel you could help with the development of our current students, please let us know.
