Our aims

At Heatherton Nursery, it is our aim that every girl and boy develops a lively, enquiring mind and feels happy, safe and secure.

We ensure that every child fulfills their potential in all aspects of their progress and growth.

We work in close partnership with parents to ensure that we give every child the highest quality of care and education, according to their individual needs.

Highly qualified, specialist staff

We understand that their early school experiences will shape your child’s attitude to learning for the rest of their life.

Children at Heatherton Nursery learn through planned, purposeful play, exploration and investigation.

We are in the enviable position of having 2 fully qualified teachers as part of our Nursery staff and our extremely high staff to child ratio means we are able to offer a truly child-centred pattern of learning.

We are able to respond to the individual learning needs and interests of your child and to tailor their education to suit them, at their own pace.

Our Nursery children are also taught by specialist teachers for Music, Modern Foreign Languages and Ballet.

An outstanding learning environment

At Heatherton Nursery, children are able to choose activities that interest them.

They are allowed time to complete their chosen tasks in our indoor area that features a purposeful wooden play frame, a fully equipped IT zone, separate role-play space, a dedicated creative area and a ‘cosy’ room for circle time.

Our impressive outdoor play area features numerous ride-on toys, water play, a large sand-pit and a dedicated garden and digging zone.

Building academic foundations

By working closely with both parents and their children, we learn about a child’s interests and previous experiences. This ensures we can create new learning opportunities to ensure that they have fun and enjoy challenges and successes whilst making real progress.

Sensitive adult support ensures that our children can practice new and existing skills, develop their thoughts and ideas and when appropriate we challenge their thinking and invite them to test their ideas.

At Heatherton we also teach children how to become learners. Through playing and exploring, they become engaged, curious and willing to try new things.

Through active learning, they learn to be motivated and persistent and to enjoy a sense of achievement.

By creating and thinking critically, they develop their thinking skills so that they can have their own ideas, make links between their experiences and make decisions and choices in their learning.

Opening Hours & Sessions

Heatherton’s Co-educational Nursery in Amersham is open Monday to Friday during term time. CLICK HERE for current term dates.

When a pupil joins our Nursery as a ‘rising three’ (the term they turn three), he or she may start on the current minimum of three morning sessions per week. Once a pupil is three years’ old, the minimum sessions required are currently either: four morning sessions; two full days or one full day and two morning sessions. Sessions are usually increased term by term to meet a child’s needs in preparation for their transition into Reception and can be regularly discussed with our staff. We do ask that the sessions are consecutive as this helps with the settling in process. The session timing can be seen below.

Breakfast Club 07:30 – 08:00
Morning Session (before lunch)* 08:00 -12:00
Full Day (includes lunch) 08:00 – 15:30 (from September 2021)
After-school Club 15:00 – 18:00

* Children in the Nursery have a rolling start and can come in between 08:00 – 08.40.

Nursery Fees

The Heatherton Nursery accepts childcare vouchers as payment from accredited companies for school fees. We are not registered for the Early Years Government Funding.

Breakfast Club and After-School Club to be booked and paid for separately.

At Heatherton we understand that you may need childcare flexibility and support out of standard school hours. We offer Wrap Around Care from 07:30 until 18:00 for all Heatherton pupils from Nursery to Year 6.

How to register

The earliest a pupil can start at the school is the term in which they become three years’ old. Entry into the Nursery takes place three times a year, in September, January and April.

Places are limited for ‘rising three’ entrants, so early registration is advised. Our Admissions Officer Yasmin Rouse will be happy to clarify your child’s earliest possible start date.

Please contact Andrea on 01494 726433 or admissions@heatherton.com to make an appointment to come and see our amazing Nursery in action.
