Music

Over 70% of the children from Year 2 upwards take individual music lessons at Heatherton, including voice lessons. We currently offer piano, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone and voice. We also offer a weekly Music Theory class for those children who are keen to build on their classroom knowledge about the language and grammar of Music. Pupils are prepared for the ABRSM Theory of Music exams.

Lessons are up to 40 minutes in length and are taught on a rotational basis throughout the school day by a team of experienced and high-quality peripatetic teachers.

Our girls also have the opportunity to join the popular School choirs and smaller musical ensembles, and soon as pupils are at approximately Grade 2 standard and feel confident with their instrumental playing, they are invited to join the School Orchestra.

Drama

At Heatherton, we are committed to the inclusion of Drama within our curriculum. Drama is incorporated within the Pre-Prep’s English Scheme of Work, with opportunities for speaking and listening arising in at least one English lesson each week. The highlight of Pre-Prep drama arises through the process of creating their Christmas play.

During the Michaelmas term, Drama lessons for Years 2, 3 and 5 are used to prepare them for LAMDA examinations.

When the girls enter Prep, Drama becomes a separate subject within their programme of study. We have high expectations of our girls, resulting in many successful and high-quality performances. Some of our recent productions have included The Lion King, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.
